Regreso a mi son sin clave es la historia de Alejandro Santamaría, un simple maestro en una escuela secundaria de Miami. Luego de abandonar su país con sus padres, Alejandro ha hecho todo lo posible por olvidar lo que dejó atrás y recomenzar su vida en el exilio. Recientemente, sin embargo, ha hecho amistad con Jesús, un balsero que rápidamente se convierte en una suerte de mentor para Alejandro. Esta nueva amistad motiva a Alejandro a regresar a la isla para reencontrarse con sus parientes casi olvidados en el tiempo. Regreso a mi son sin clave, which roughly translates to "Back to my tune with no beat," is a novel about the trials and tribulations of a young Cuban emigre, who lives in Miami. After leaving his country, Alejandro attempts to put his past behind him and go on with his new life. However, he befriends a man, Jesus, who convinces him to return to Cuba to reconnect with his long-forgotten relatives and his culture. Alejandro decides to go back, in spite of his father's objections, but he has no idea he will be hit in the face with everything he wanted to forget and more.
