A hilarious, tender look at the importance of love, connection, and sisterhood told over sixteen tumultuous months through the eyes (and emails) of one woman.
Olivia Hunt's life is already melting down when she receives the call that her younger sister Maddie has been diagnosed with cancer. Olivia was unceremoniously fired from her job as a high-powered Hollywood film producer, her on-again-off-again boyfriend dumped her again, and she was four drafts into her suicide note when the phone rang.
Maddie—the eternal optimist—had always driven Olivia crazy with her wishful thinking but now faced with family troubles and painful medical treatments, Olivia is forced to travel back to the town she swore she'd never return to. As Maddie undergoes treatment, Olivia struggles to balance caregiving, family tensions, her failing love life, and her attempts to produce an ambitious film adaptation of Don Quixote.
The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters explores themes of sisterhood, hope, grief, ambition, and the messy ways people love one another. Despite its serious themes, the story mixes wit and warmth with emotional depth, showing how hope and humor can survive even during tragedy, and will appeal to fans of Catherine Newman's We All Want Impossible Things.
